Andean Adventures

YarnPaducah School of Art and Design is proud to announce that The 1857 Hotel is exhibiting Andean Adventures: Photos of the Peruvian and Bolivian Altiplano, featuring photographs by PSAD students Basil Drossos, Paul Grumley and Phyllis Russell. Paintings by Jane Bright will also be on display on the second floor. The exhibition opens with an artist’s reception from 6-8 p.m., September 8, 2016. The 1857 Hotel is located at 210 Kentucky Avenue, in Paducah, Kentucky.

Meet the Artists

Final Card page 1Paducah School of Art and Design is pleased to have hosted Meet the Artists for 2016. Over 65 regional artists and their work were be on site upstairs at PSAD’s 2D and Graphic Design Building for this celebration of art and community. The September 15 event was organized by Paducah Main Street through the City Planning Department. PSAD’s Annual Faculty Exhibition was also on display downstairs in the Bill Ford Gallery. The event was free and open to the public.

PSAD hosted the first 2016-2017 meeting of the Art and Design Club in the 2D and Graphic Design Building at 905 Harrison Street at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 24.  Congratulations to the elected officers for the coming year, which are Lillie Poindexter, president, Michael Galuszka, vice-president, and Sarah Hall, secretary/treasurer. Funds for club activities are generated through the annual Student and Faculty Holiday Art Sale and the Art and Design Club is open to all WKCTC students.

Paducah School of Art and Design (PSAD) is pleased to announce that artist Lily Liu is our new community education and public programs coordinator, a part-time position assisting with the development and presentation of community-based activities serving the region. These include expansion of our community education programs and services for children and youth. Lily will also be teaching a new community education class Introduction to Fiber Arts beginning in October. Click on Classes and then Community Education in the menu bar above to view a full listing of summer and fall  offerings.

With PSAD’s new 2D and Graphic Design building complete, West Kentucky Community and Technical College president Dr. Barbara Veazey has committed to maximizing the building’s value for the community and to fulfilling PSAD’s role as a community resource and economic driver. Lily Liu’s position will expand our role in the community and support the City’s economic development plans as presented recently by Avalanche, a nationally acclaimed consultancy firm that advocates and recognizes the role of the arts in Paducah’s development.

At Paducah School of Art and Design (PSAD), a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and studio artists from the community work side by side in the studios, sharing insights, experience, and ideas for the mutual benefit of all. PSAD, a division of West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC), offers classes in a wide variety of visual art studio areas and art history. Students may take beginning and intermediate classes for credit or recreationally or may choose to pursue an Associate in Fine Arts or an Associate in Applied Science in Visual Communication:Multimedia degree.
